*awards are presented for service in the calendar year prior, so for example the 2007 winner was presented in 2008.

** Prior to 1997, Citizen of the Year was awarded solely by the Township of Artemesia.

In 1997, the Awards became a dinner event, co-hosted by the Flesherton & District Chamber of Commerce and a Business of the Year Award and Senior of the Year were started.

In 1999 the Business Award was re-named: the Archie Bernard Memorial Business of the Year Award, in recognition of the leadership and inspiration the late Archie Bernard brought to our community through Bernard’s Quality Cars, Frontier Village and his Council and Chamber involvement

With the demise of the Township (amalgamated in 2000 to form the Municipality of Grey Highlands), the Flesherton & District Chamber of Commerce decided to continue all three awards as an initiative solely of Chamber.

Since 2001, the Community Awards has been a Chamber of Commerce event.

The Business of the Year award is presented to the business that best represents, in that calendar year, the following criteria:

Outstanding Customer Service; Growth or expansion; Innovation; Employment; Community Service

The Senior and Citizen of the Year awards are presented to individuals who have distinguished themselves during that calendar year with outstanding community service.

Special Recognition Awards are presented from the Flesherton and District Chamber of Commerce to community organizations that have distinguished themselves through promoting Flesherton and/or providing exceptional service to the community.

And the Community Awards has served as a fitting occasion for other recognitions to be made, by other organizations. For example, when the provincial or federal governments have made recognitions to, for example, volunteers, heritage groups and youth, the Community Awards event has included these presentations in the agenda.

Since 2004 The Community Awards has also cooperated with the South Grey Museum board to host a Silent Auction in benefit to the South Grey Museum, at the Community Awards Dinner.
